I am a biologist with a PhD in Biodiversity, Genetics and Evolution from the University of Porto. I have a strong background in invasive alien species, fire ecology, and ecological modelling. My PhD thesis aimed to improve the understanding of invasion-fire interactions and the occurrence of invasion-fire cycles, providing evidence to support decision-making for ecosystem management and conservation.
During my career, I have developed extensive expertise in data analysis and ecological modelling, with experience applying both static and dynamic models using R, Python, and STELLA. This experience is supported by formal training in Advanced Statistics for Ecology and Evolution in R, Advanced Ecological Niche Modelling, and Models in Invasion Ecology: Challenges and Applications, and demonstrated through my peer-reviewed publications.
I have experience participating in regional research projects focused on biodiversity conservation and invasive species management, including the LIFE IP AZORES NATURA project (LIFE17 IPE/PT/000010), where I contributed in two reports, and the ongoing "Paisagem Protegida Regional do Litoral de Vila do Conde e Reserva Ornitológica de Mindelo - Plano de Gestão de Espécies Exóticas Invasoras e Conservação de Anfíbios e Aves” project. I have also contributed to the IPBES Thematic Assessment on Invasive Alien Species both as a contributing author in the report Chapter 1 and author in an ongoing article.
