Position: Junior Researcher

The BIOPOLIS Association opens an international selection tender for the hiring of a Junior Researcher to carry out scientific research activities under an unfixed-term employment contract, with an expected duration of 1 year, renewable up to 2 years, under the Labor Code. The tender is intended to fill one (1) position within the scope of the Partnership between BIOPOLIS and REN - Rede Elétrica Nacional, funded by REN, and the LIFE SafeLines4Birds project (LIFE21-NAT-FR-101073826), co-funded by the European Union.

The selected researcher will be responsible for developing activities associated with assessing the environmental impact of energy infrastructures on biodiversity, particularly on avifauna.

Main roles and responsibilities: The junior researcher will perform the following activities, within the research line of the Infrastructure Ecology group:

  1. Support in the planning and monitoring of the technical and scientific activities of the projects, ensuring coordination among partners, and the fulfillment of objectives, schedules, and deliverables.
  2. Management, analysis, and interpretation of scientific data, as well as the preparation of scientific publications, technical-scientific opinions, technical reports, and other documents supporting the projects' activities.
  3. Participation in technical-scientific advisory activities, supporting decision-making by companies, competent authorities, and other relevant stakeholders, in matters related to nature and biodiversity conservation, particularly in the context of assessing and mitigating the impacts of energy infrastructures.
  4. Representation of the projects in technical meetings, workshops, dissemination actions, and scientific events, promoting the transfer of knowledge between research and practice.

Applicable Legislation: Labor Code, approved by Law No. 7/2009, of February 12, in its current wording; Decree-Law No. 57/2016, of August 29, amended by Law No. 57/2017, of July 19, and Regulatory Decree No. 11-A/2017, of December 29, which approves the regime for hiring PhD holders aimed at stimulating scientific and technological employment in all areas of knowledge (Legal Regime of Scientific Employment — RJEC); Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of August 16 (recognition of foreign academic degrees); Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council, of April 27, 2016 (GDPR) and Law No. 58/2019, of August 8.

Workplace: The workplace is located at the Lisbon pole of the BIOPOLIS/CIBIO Association, situated at the campus of the Instituto Superior de Agronomia, Tapada da Ajuda, and may involve travel in Portugal or abroad, in the service or representation of the employer.

Monthly Remuneration: The monthly remuneration to be awarded is that provided in subparagraph a) of paragraph 1 of article 15 of the RJEC, and article 2 of Regulatory Decree No. 11-A/2017, of December 29, corresponding to level 33 of the Single Remuneration Table, approved by Ordinance No. 1553-C/2008, of December 31, amounting to 2,408.11 euros.

General Requirements: National, foreign, and stateless citizens who hold a doctoral degree in biology, or a related scientific area, and possess a scientific and professional curriculum that reveals a profile suited to the activity to be developed may apply to the tender. If the doctorate was awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of August 16, and any formalities established therein must be fulfilled by the date of signing the employment contract.

Specific Requirements: In addition to the general requirements defined in the previous point, the specific requirements are:

  • Experience in research activities in the area of the impacts of anthropogenic infrastructures on biodiversity, particularly in the area of interactions between power lines and avifauna;
  • Experience in scientific publication, preparation of technical-scientific opinions, and writing of technical reports in the area referred to in the previous point;
  • Knowledge of EIA (Environmental Impact Assessment) procedures and practices in Portugal, ideally in energy transmission infrastructure projects, namely their implications on Ecology and Biodiversity components (e.g., monitoring plans; mitigation measures, evaluation of their effectiveness, etc.);
  • Data analysis skills (in R language or others);
  • Good teamwork skills and experience in coordinating with different entities, namely energy infrastructure developers, environmental authorities (e.g., APA, ICNF), NGOs, and other stakeholders;
  • Driver's license and availability to travel in Portugal and abroad;
  • Excellent command, both spoken and written, of the Portuguese and English languages.

Start Date: November 1, 2026.

Selection Criteria: Under the terms of article 5 of the RJEC, the selection is carried out through the evaluation of the scientific and curricular path of the candidates, based on the relevance, quality, and timeliness of the following elements, weighted according to the table below:

  • General scientific coherence of the CV and suitability for the position — Integrated evaluation of the curricular trajectory, including other technical-scientific / academic activities — 20%
  • Professional experience (technical and/or scientific) in the area of the Impacts of anthropogenic infrastructures on biodiversity, in particular of power lines on birds — 30%
  • Technical-scientific production, including scientific publications, preparation of technical-scientific opinions, technical reports, and other documents of a scientific nature — 15%
  • Skills in data analysis and management (R language or other) — 15%
  • Experience in planning and monitoring activities, including experience interacting with companies, NGOs, and other entities — 10%
  • Motivation letter — 10%

The final classification system for candidates is expressed on a scale of 0 to 100.

The evaluation of applications may be complemented by an interview with candidates whose classification in the curricular evaluation is up to 10% below the highest score. The interview will only take place if there are other candidates with a point difference of less than 10% compared to the first classified, serving the purpose of tie-breaking and final ranking.

The purpose of the interview will be to clarify and obtain more detailed information on the various curricular elements, as well as to evaluate the profile and motivation of the candidates. The final classification to be indicated by each jury member is obtained as follows: 85% based on the curricular evaluation and scientific path and 15% based on the interview.

Jury: In accordance with article 13 of the RJEC, the tender jury has the following composition: Doctor Ricardo Martins (Researcher BIOPOLIS/CIBIO - President), Doctor Francisco Moreira (Principal Researcher BIOPOLIS/CIBIO), and Doctor Joana Bernardino (Researcher BIOPOLIS/CIBIO). Alternate member: Doctor Rui Morgado (Researcher BIOPOLIS/CIBIO)

The jury will deliberate through a roll-call vote, substantiated in accordance with the adopted and disclosed selection criteria, with abstentions not being allowed.

Minutes of the jury meetings will be drawn up, which must contain a summary of what occurred in them, as well as the votes cast by each of the members and the respective reasoning, being provided to the candidates whenever requested.

After completing the application of the selection criteria, the jury will proceed to draw up the ordered list of approved candidates, with their respective classification.

The final deliberation of the jury is approved by the maximum leader of the institution, who is also responsible for deciding on the hiring.

Candidates who incorrectly formalize their application or who do not prove the requirements demanded in this tender are excluded from admission to the tender. The jury has the right to demand from any candidate, in case of doubt, the presentation of documentary proof of their declarations.

False statements made by candidates will be punished in accordance with the law.

Notification of Results and Prior Hearing of Interested Parties: The final results will be communicated via an ordered list by final score, sent by email to all candidates. After notification, candidates have 10 working days to comment within the scope of the Prior Hearing of Interested Parties.

Final Provisions: This tender is exclusively intended to fill the indicated vacancy and may be terminated until the final ordered list of candidates is approved, expiring with the respective occupation of the job position.

A Associação BIOPOLIS abre concurso de seleção internacional para a contratação de um/a Investigador/a Júnior para o exercício de atividades de investigação científica, em regime de contrato de trabalho a termo incerto, com duração prevista de 1 ano, que se poderá renovar até aos 2 anos, ao abrigo do Código do Trabalho. O concurso destina-se ao preenchimento de um (1) lugar, no âmbito da Parceria entre o BIOPOLIS e a REN - Rede Elétrica Nacional, financiada pela REN, e do projeto LIFE SafeLines4Birds (LIFE21-NAT-FR-101073826), co-financiado pela União Europeia.

O/a investigador/a selecionado/a será responsável pelo desenvolvimento de atividades associadas à avaliação do impacto ambiental de infraestruturas de energia na biodiversidade, em particular na avifauna.

Funções e responsabilidades principais: O/a investigador/a júnior irá desempenhar as seguintes atividades, enquadradas na linha de investigação do grupo Infrastructure Ecology:

  1. Apoio ao planeamento e acompanhamento das atividades técnico-científicas dos projetos, assegurando a articulação entre parceiros, o cumprimento dos objetivos, cronogramas e entregáveis.
  2. Gestão, análise e interpretação de dados científicos, bem como elaboração de publicações científicas, pareceres técnico-científicos, relatórios técnicos e outros documentos de suporte às atividades dos projetos.
  3. Participação em atividades de assessoria técnico-científica, apoiando a tomada de decisão por parte de empresas, autoridades competentes e outros stakeholders relevantes, em matérias relacionadas com a conservação da natureza e da biodiversidade, em particular no contexto da avaliação e mitigação dos impactos de infraestruturas energéticas.
  4. Representação dos projetos em reuniões técnicas, workshops, ações de disseminação e eventos científicos, promovendo a transferência de conhecimento entre a investigação e a prática.

Legislação aplicável: Código do Trabalho, aprovado pela Lei n.º 7/2009, de 12 de fevereiro, na sua redação atual; Decreto-Lei n.º 57/2016, de 29 de agosto, alterado pela Lei n.º 57/2017, de 19 de julho, e Decreto Regulamentar n.º 11-A/2017, de 29 de dezembro, que aprova o regime de contratação de doutorados destinado a estimular o emprego científico e tecnológico em todas as áreas do conhecimento (Regime Jurídico do Emprego Científico — RJEC); Decreto-Lei n.º 66/2018, de 16 de agosto (reconhecimento de graus académicos estrangeiros); Regulamento (UE) 2016/679 do Parlamento Europeu e do Conselho, de 27 de abril de 2016 (RGPD) e Lei n.º 58/2019, de 8 de agosto.

Local: O local de trabalho situa-se no polo de Lisboa da Associação BIOPOLIS/CIBIO, localizado no campus do Instituto Superior de Agronomia, Tapada da Ajuda, podendo envolver viagens em Portugal ou no estrangeiro, ao serviço ou representação da entidade empregadora.

Remuneração Mensal: A remuneração mensal a atribuir é a prevista na alínea a) no n.º 1 do artigo 15.º do RJEC, e artº 2 do Decreto Regulamentar nº 11-A/2017, de 29 de dezembro correspondente ao nível 33 da Tabela Remuneratória Única, aprovada pela Portaria n.º 1553-C/2008, de 31 de dezembro, sendo de 2.408,11 euros.

Requisitos Gerais: Ao concurso podem candidatar-se cidadãos nacionais, estrangeiros(as) e apátridas que sejam titulares do grau de doutor(a) em biologia, ou área científica afim, e detentores(as) de um currículo científico e profissional que revele um perfil adequado à atividade a desenvolver. Caso o doutoramento tenha sido conferido por instituição de ensino superior estrangeira, o mesmo tem de obedecer ao disposto no Decreto-Lei n.º 66/2018, de 16 de agosto, devendo quaisquer formalidades aí estabelecidas estar cumpridas até à data da assinatura do contrato de trabalho.

Requisitos Específicos: Para além dos requisitos gerais definidos no ponto anterior, são requisitos específicos:

  • Experiência em atividades de investigação na área dos impactos de infraestruturas de origem antropogénica sobre a biodiversidade, em particular na área das interações entre linhas elétricas e avifauna;
  • Experiência em publicação científica, elaboração de pareceres técnico-científicos e redação de relatórios técnicos na área referida na alínea anterior;
  • Conhecimento sobre os procedimentos e práticas de AIA em Portugal, idealmente em projetos de infraestruturas de transporte de energia, nomeadamente as suas implicações nas componentes de Ecologia e Biodiversidade (e.g. planos de monitorização; medidas de minimização, avaliação da sua eficácia, etc.);
  • Capacidade de análise de dados (em linguagem R ou outras);
  • Boas competências de trabalho em equipa e experiência na articulação com diferentes entidades, nomeadamente promotores de infraestruturas energéticas, autoridades ambientais (e.g. APA, ICNF), ONG’s e outras partes interessadas;
  • Carta de condução e disponibilidade para deslocações em Portugal e no estrangeiro;
  • Excelente domínio, oral e escrito, das línguas portuguesa e inglesa.

Data de Início: 1 de novembro de 2026.

Critérios de Seleção: Nos termos do artigo 5.º do RJEC, a seleção realiza-se através da avaliação do percurso científico e curricular dos/as candidatos/as, com base na relevância, qualidade e atualidade dos seguintes elementos, ponderados de acordo com a tabela abaixo:

  • Coerência científica geral do CV e adequação à posição — Avaliação integrada da trajetória curricular, incluindo outras atividades tecnico-científicas / académicas — 20%
  • Experiência profissional (técnica e/ou científica) na área dos Impactos de infraestruturas antropogénicas sobre a biodiversidade, em particular de linhas elétricas nas aves 30%
  • Produção técnico-científica, incluindo publicações científicas, elaboração de pareceres técnico-científicos, relatórios técnicos e outros documentos de natureza científica15%
  • Competências em análise e gestão de dados (linguagem R ou outra) — 15%
  • Experiência no planeamento e acompanhamento de atividades, incluindo experiência de interação com empresas, ONGs e outras entidades — 10%
  • Carta de motivação — 10%

O sistema de classificação final dos/as candidatos/as é expresso numa escala de 0 a 100.

A apreciação das candidaturas poderá ser complementada por uma entrevista aos candidatos cuja classificação na avaliação curricular fique até 10% abaixo da nota mais elevada. A entrevista só terá lugar caso existam outros candidatos com uma diferença pontual inferior a 10% em relação ao primeiro classificado, servindo para efeitos de desempate e ordenação final.

O objetivo da entrevista será o de clarificar e obter informação mais detalhada dos vários elementos curriculares, bem como avaliar o perfil e a motivação dos candidatos. A classificação final a indicar por cada membro do júri é obtida da seguinte forma: 85% baseada na avaliação curricular e no percurso científico e 15% baseada na entrevista.

O júri deliberará através de votação nominal, fundamentada de acordo com os critérios de seleção adotados e divulgados, não sendo permitidas abstenções.

Das reuniões do júri serão lavradas atas, que deverão conter um resumo do que nelas houver ocorrido, bem como os votos emitidos por cada um dos membros e respetiva fundamentação, sendo facultadas aos/às candidatos/as sempre que solicitadas.

Após conclusão da aplicação dos critérios de seleção, o júri procederá à elaboração da lista ordenada dos candidatos aprovados, com a respetiva classificação.

A deliberação final do júri é homologada pelo dirigente máximo da instituição a quem compete também decidir da contratação.
