Joana Ferreira e Silva got her master’s degree in Veterinary Medicine by ICBAS – University of Porto in 2020. In 2022, she finished a post-graduation program in Exotic Animal Clinics at Autonomous University of Barcelona and she is now enrolled on BIODIV doctoral programme at FCUP and BIOPOLIS/CIBIO.
She is a licensed veterinary surgeon in both Portugal (member of OMV) and UK (member of RCVS).

Joana has been working as an intern and volunteer in multiple wildlife rehabilitation centres and Zoos since she was a student. Once she graduated as a veterinary surgeon, she started working in small animal practices, where she has been treating dogs, cats and exotic/wild patients.
She is currently participating in projects regarding epidemiology of wild lagomorphs and ungulates in the Iberian peninsula.
Her major areas of interest are epidemiology and wildlife conservation, particularly the study of wild-domestic shared pathogens and their impact on populations’ ecology and One Health.
