OneSTOP: OneBiosecurity Systems and Technology for People, Places and Pathways
OneSTOP is a research project funded under the European Union’s Horizon Europe Research and Innovation programme that is pioneering an innovative and integrated approach to biosecurity for terrestrial invasive alien species (IAS). By strengthening the interconnections between animal, plant, human, and environmental health, OneSTOP aims to minimise the introduction, establishment, spread, and impact of IAS.
Built on four core pillars – Detection, Prioritisation, Dissemination, and Socio-political action – the project brings together cutting-edge technologies and meaningful stakeholder integration to transform the management of biological invasions in Europe and beyond.
The project combines emerging tools such as computer vision, environmental DNA (eDNA), and citizen science to enhance early detection and monitoring. It is also developing automated workflows and model-based risk assessments to support a data-driven prioritisation system for more effective policy and management decisions. To ensure rapid and coordinated responses, OneSTOP promotes open and FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) data principles, enabling seamless access to data and software across sectors and borders.
Beyond technological innovation, OneSTOP emphasises the importance of participatory and socially informed approaches. Through the establishment of five Living Labs across Europe, the project is engaging diverse stakeholders in co-creating solutions. It is also exploring culturomics to understand societal perceptions and values, ensuring that biosecurity strategies are socially responsive, politically feasible, and widely supported.
