ENVIRONMENTAL EFFECTIVENESS OF WOODLAND MEASURES FOR REDUCING AGRICULTURAL DIFFUSE POLLUTION TO WATER | TRAINING SCHOOL
General Topic
Environmental effectiveness of forest PES schemes to reduce agricultural diffuse pollution to water. Specifically:
• Evidence for the effectiveness of woodland measures for reducing a range of agricultural diffuse pollutants
• Models and decision support tools for managing agricultural diffuse pollution
• Environmental economics and examples of PES schemes
• Training on SWAT (Soil and Water Assessment Tool) hydrological model
Target audience
The training school is intended for those involved in work directly related to the COST Action CA15206, PESFOR-W. PhD students and early stage postdoctoral workers are especially encouraged to attend, as well as those who wish to improve their skills on PES schemes relating to forests and water. The training will focus on woodland creation measures, evidence base case- studies, the application of hydrological models and guidance on spatial targeting, design and management of measures.
The training school will be limited to 18 participants.
Eligible trainees
I. Trainees from PESFOR-W COST action country Full Members / Cooperating Member;
II. Trainees from Approved NNC institutions;
III. Trainees from Approved European RTD Organisations.

Costs
Travel and subsistence grants of up to 800 Euros will be available for around 18 participants.
The exact amount will be decided based on the number of participants and expected travel costs.
Suggested accomodation is the Hotel Brazão, Vila do Conde, with a special rate of 31€ Euros per night including breakfast (for booking until 22nd September 2018).

Other requirements
Applicants are required to fill a slide about their own research based on a template in power point that will be given before the training school and to present it in 5 minutes for the other training school colleagues.
They are required to bring their own laptop, preferably with Quantum GIS and possibly QSWAT installed (available at: https://swat.tamu.edu/software/qswat/), although access to the software will be provided at the training school.
