TiBE 2025 | Biodiversity, Evolution and Conservation in Deserts and Arid Regions

From 09 Oct 2025 until 10 Oct 2025 - Vila do Conde, Portugal
TiBE 2025 | Biodiversity, Evolution and Conservation in Deserts and Arid Regions

The Trends in Biodiversity and Evolution TiBE) conference is an annual meeting organized by BIOPOLIS-CIBIO providing a platform for senior researchers, as well as post-graduate and graduate students, to present and discuss the latest developments in evolutionary biology and related fields. Topics covered include speciation, molecular evolution, comparative genomics, and population and conservation genetics, among others. Held in an informal yet stimulating atmosphere, the conference fosters learning, exchange and collaboration within the scientific community.

TiBE 2025
TiBE 2025 is devoted to the theme Biodiversity, Evolution, and Conservation in Deserts and Arid Regions and will focus on the diverse flora, fauna, and human communities of these ecosystems.
Over two days, we will explore the knowledge about desert biodiversity, the factors shaping biodiversity in these ecosystems, examine the impacts of global changes, and analyse the current actions being developed to ensure the long-term conservation of desert biodiversity. The event will bring together leading scientists, researchers, students, and practitioners to discuss recent advancements and foster collaborations on innovative solutions for conserving and sustainably managing biodiversity in deserts and arid regions.

VENUE
The conference will take place at Centro Municipal de Juventude de Vila do Conde

PROGRAM
The conference is structured into four thematic sessions:

Session 1 - Biodiversity distribution in deserts and arid regions
Assessment of the current knowledge on biodiversity distribution patterns, including biodiversity surveys and monitoring of key-species and habitats, and the environmental factors driving distribution, including climate, soil, and water availability.

Session 2 - Evolutionary drivers of biodiversity in deserts and arid regions
Explore the evolutionary and landscape processes shaping biodiversity in these regions, including geologic and paleoclimatic factors, as well as geographic barriers in the landscape to gene flow and population connectivity.

Session 3 - Global change impacts on deserts and arid regions
Discuss the effects of human activities, habitat transformation and loss, and climate change on species distribution, ecosystem function, and community resilience in these environments.

Session 4 - Conservation planning in deserts and arid regions
Examine innovative approaches to conserve threatened species and habitats, with a focus on restoration ecology and community-driven conservation, and policy frameworks for sustainable management and conservation.

An outline of the program is available here, with a detailed schedule coming soon.
