I did my bachelor in Biology (2005) and my master in Landscape Ecology and Nature Conservation (2007) with the title "Modelação Preditiva Hierárquica e Espacialmente Explícita da Distribuição de Espécies da Flora Vascular” in Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade do Porto. I developed my PhD at the same institution with the theme: "Modelling landscape invasion by alien plants under current and future conditions of climate and land use” (2012). Between 2012 and 2018 I developed my research working as an FCT post-doctoral fellow in CIBIO-InBIO at the University of Porto "Modelling the dynamics of invasive plants in forest landscapes under scenarios of future climate, land use, forest management and fire disturbance”. Since 2019 I am a contracted researcher at BIOPOLIS CIBIO-InBIO where I’m developing research focused on "Advancing invasion research and policy through predictive modelling - a vulnerability framework for European landscapes”. I am currently one of the selected authors developing the IPBES Invasive alien species assessment - Thematic assessment of invasive alien species and their control.

My area of expertise focuses on fundamental and applied research on invasion science; ecological modelling of invasive alien species geographic patterns; landscape ecology; Nature’s Contribution to People, and environmental changes. More specifically predicting isolated and synergic impacts of multi-scale environmental changes in the spread of biological invasions in heterogeneous landscapes, ecosystems and landscape functioning using both static and dynamic modelling.

In 2021 I created the research group InvasionS – Invasion Science, at BIOPOLIS-CIBIO / InBIO that I currently lead.
