Infrastructure Ecology - ECOINFRA

Infrastructure Ecology is a team of researchers in the field of energy and transport infrastructure, that provides state-of-the-art, science-based solutions to address the challenges arising from the expansion of these infrastructures at both national and international levels, aiming to contribute to the target of No Net Loss of Biodiversity.

The main goals of the group are to:

a) evaluate the mechanisms underlying the patterns and processes of the negative effects of infrastructures including roads, railways, power lines, wind farms, and photovoltaic plants, with a specific emphasis on protecting terrestrial vertebrates;

b) assess and monitor mitigation and compensation measures across infrastructures;

c) bridge science with best practices in infrastructure development by compiling raw data from surveys and making it publicly accessible through platforms, predicting impacts for studied and unstudied species, prioritizing areas for mitigation, developing user-friendly analytical tools, and facilitating capacity building through manuals of best practices, workshops and advanced courses to assist consultants, NGOs, and public administration in making informed decisions.
