1. Announcement
BIOPOLIS Association opens an international selection call for the recruitment of a Junior Researcher to carry out research activities under a fixed-term employment contract of uncertain duration, with an expected duration of 12 months. This call is for one (1) position (Reference BIOPOLIS 2026-01) to conduct scientific research within the project "TRANSFER: Transcriptomic Single-cell Analysis of Fc receptor-like 6 Effector Lymphocytes in Rabbits: a new translational model for human immunity studies”, funded by national funds through FCT (ref. 2023.15993.ICDT). The selected candidate will be responsible for conducting research on the rabbit immune system, with a particular focus on gene expression analysis in the thymus and spleen. The selected candidate is expected to work with a high degree of autonomy and hold a certificate in animal experimentation, as well as participate in and support the production of science communication materials, including technical reports and scientific articles. The selected candidate will be a junior researcher with an excellent scientific track record in the immune system and infectious diseases of lagomorphs, with significant international experience and demonstrated ability to work in a team. This research will intersect with several ongoing research projects and with the main objectives of the BIOPOLIS Centre of Excellence. The researcher will also be responsible for coordinating and conducting new research initiatives aimed at understanding the rabbit immune system and creating conditions for the results obtained to be used in human studies. In addition to the responsibilities associated with the research project, the selected candidate must create conditions for the development of a research line in the area of parasite–host interactions within the Immunity and Emerging Diseases (IMED) research group. To this end, the candidate should supervise and attract new undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students. Furthermore, the selected candidate is expected to collaborate with other BIOPOLIS research groups and establish links with national and international initiatives related to the study of the immune system and infectious diseases.

6. Monthly Remuneration
The monthly remuneration corresponds to the amount established in Article 15(1)(a) of the RJEC and Article 2 of Regulatory Decree no. 11-A/2017 of 29 December, corresponding to level 33 of the Single Remuneration Table, approved by Ordinance no. 1553-C/2008 of 31 December, amounting to € 2,351.53.
7. Admission Requirements
The call is open to national, foreign, and stateless candidates holding a PhD in Biology or a related scientific area, with a scientific and professional curriculum suited to the activities described in point 1. If the PhD degree was awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law no. 66/2018 of 16 August, and all formalities must be completed by the time the employment contract is signed.
8. General and Specific Admission Requirements

9. Selection Method
Under Article 5 of the RJEC, selection is based on the evaluation of the candidates’ scientific and curricular track record.

The evaluation focuses on the relevance, quality, and timeliness of the candidate’s scientific and curricular track record:
a) Overall scientific output and scientific results considered most relevant by the candidate in parasite–host interactions b) Experience in molecular biology laboratory techniques
11. Scoring Criteria
11.1 Integrated assessment of the candidate’s curriculum, based on overall scientific merit:
I. General scientific coherence of the CV – 40%
II. Diversity and quality of scientific indicators, including peer-reviewed articles published in journals relevant to the project – 20%
III. Participation in basic or applied research projects in the area of the call – 20%
11.2 Relevant experience in:
I. Basic and applied research in evolutionary biology, focusing on parasite–host interactions – 20%
12. Final Classification
The final score is expressed on a scale from 0 to 100.
13. Panel Decisions
The panel deliberates by nominal vote, with justification based on the published selection criteria. Abstentions are not permitted.

A Associação BIOPOLIS abre concurso de seleção internacional para a contratação de um investigador Júnior para o exercício de atividades de investigação, em regime de contrato de trabalho a termo incerto por um período previsto de 12 meses. O presente aviso destina-se a um (1) lugar (Referência BIOPOLIS 2026-01 para o exercício de atividades de investigação científica no âmbito do projeto "TRANSFER: Transcriptomic Single-cell Analysis of Fc receptor-like 6 Effector Lymphocytes in Rabbits: a new translational model for human immunity studies”, financiado por fundos nacionais através da FCT (ref. 2023.15993.ICDT). O candidato selecionado será responsável por conduzir investigação no sistema imunitário do coelho, com particular enfoque na análise de expressão de genes no timo e no baço. Espera-se que o candidato selecionado tenha grande autonomia e possua um certificado em experimentação animal, bem como participe e apoie a produção de material de comunicação e divulgação de ciência, como relatórios técnicos e artigos científicos. O candidato selecionado será um investigador júnior com um excelente historial científico em sistema imunitário e doenças infeciosas de lagomorfos, com experiência internacional significativa e que demonstre capacidade para trabalhar em grupo. Esta investigação cruzar-se-á com vários dos projetos de investigação em curso e com os principais objetivos do Centro de Excelência BIOPOLIS. O investigador será também responsável por coordenar e conduzir novas iniciativas de investigação destinadas a compreender o sistema imunitário do coelho e criar as condições para que os resultados obtidos possam ser utilizados para o estudo em humanos. Para além das responsabilidades associadas ao projeto de investigação, o candidato selecionado deverá criar condições para o desenvolvimento de uma linha de investigação na área da interação parasita-hospedeiro, dentro do grupo de investigação Immunity and Emerging Diseases (IMED). Para isso, deverá orientar e atrair novos estudantes de licenciatura, mestrado e doutoramento. Além disso, o candidato selecionado deverá colaborar com os restantes grupos de investigação do BIOPOLIS, bem como estabelecer ligações com iniciativas nacionais e internacionais relacionadas com o estudo do sistema imunitário e doenças infeciosas.
2. Legislação aplicável
Decreto-lei n.º 57/2016, de 29 de agosto, alterado pela Lei 57/2017 e Decreto Regulamentar n.º 11-A/2017, que aprova um regime de contratação de doutorados, destinado a estimular o emprego científico e tecnológico em todas as áreas do conhecimento (Regime Jurídico do Emprego Científico - RJEC); Código do Trabalho, aprovado pela Lei n.º 7/2009, de 12 de fevereiro, na sua redação atual.
3. Em conformidade com o artigo 13.º do RJEC o júri do concurso tem a seguinte composição: Dr. Pedro Esteves (Investigador no CIBIO-InBIO; Presidente do Júri), Dra. Joana Abrantes (Professora Auxiliar na Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade do Porto e Investigadora no CIBIO-InBIO), e Dra. Fabiana Neves (Investigadora no CIBIO-InBIO).
4. O local de trabalho situa-se na Associação BIOPOLIS/CIBIO – Polo de Vairão, podendo envolver viagens em Portugal ou no estrangeiro, ao serviço ou representação da entidade empregadora.
5. O contrato terá a duração prevista de 12 meses.
6. A remuneração mensal a atribuir é a prevista na alínea a) no n.º 1 do artigo 15.º do RJEC, e artº 2 do Decreto Regulamentar nº 11-A/2017, de 29 de dezembro correspondente ao nível 33 da Tabela Remuneratória Única, aprovada pela Portaria n.º 1553-C/2008, 31 de dezembro, sendo de 2351,53 Euros.
7. Ao concurso podem candidatar-se cidadãos nacionais, estrangeiros(as) e apátridas que sejam titulares do grau de doutor(a) em biologia, ou área científica afim, e detentores(as) de um currículo científico e profissional que revele um perfil adequado à atividade a desenvolver (ponto 1). Caso o doutoramento tenha sido conferido por instituição de ensino superior estrangeira, o mesmo tem de obedecer ao disposto no Decreto-Lei n.º 66/2018, de 16 de Agosto, devendo quaisquer formalidades aí estabelecidas estar cumpridas até à data da assinatura do contrato de trabalho.
8. São requisitos gerais de admissão a concurso os definidos no ponto anterior (ponto 7) e requisitos especiais:
- Formação especializada em Biologia Evolutiva, particularmente no estudo da relação parasita-hospedeiro;
- Experiência laboratorial em técnicas moleculares, nomeadamente extração de ácidos nucleicos, preparação de bibliotecas para high-throughput sequencing, ELISA, PCR e qPCR;
- Experiência na análise de dados de genomas e transcriptomas;
- Experiência na mentoria e supervisão de alunos de licenciatura e mestrado;
- Formação em Ciência em Animais de Laboratório;
- Participação prévia em projetos multidisciplinares, nacionais e internacionais;
- Autoria e co-autoria em publicações científicas relevantes para a área a concurso;
- Capacidade de trabalhar em equipa;
- Fluência em português e inglês.
9. Nos termos do artigo 5.º do RJEC, a seleção realiza-se através da avaliação do percurso científico e curricular dos candidatos.
10. A avaliação do percurso científico e curricular incide sobre a relevância, qualidade e atualidade do mesmo:
a) Produção científica global, e resultados científicos considerados mais relevantes pelo candidato na relação hospedeiro-parasita;
b) Experiência em técnicas de laboratório de biologia molecular.
11. São critérios de avaliação:
11.1 Avaliação integrada da trajetória curricular do candidato, com base numa visão geral do seu mérito científico:
I. coerência científica geral do CV – 40%
II. diversidade e qualidade de indicadores científicos, incluindo artigos revistos por pares publicados em revistas científicas relevantes para o projeto – 20%
III. participação em projetos de investigação básicos ou aplicados na área em que se insere o concurso – 20%
11.2 Experiência relevante em:
I. investigação básica e aplicada em biologia evolutiva, com foco na interação parasita-hospedeiro – 20%
12. O sistema de classificação final dos candidatos é expresso numa escala de 0 a 100.
13. O júri deliberará através de votação nominal, fundamentada de acordo com os critérios de seleção adotados e divulgados, não sendo permitidas abstenções.
14. Das reuniões do júri serão lavradas atas, que deverão conter um resumo do que nelas houver ocorrido, bem como os votos emitidos por cada um dos membros e respetiva fundamentação, sendo facultadas aos candidatos sempre que solicitadas.
15. Após conclusão da aplicação dos critérios de seleção, o júri procederá à elaboração da lista ordenada dos candidatos aprovados, com a respetiva classificação.
16. A deliberação final do júri é homologada pelo dirigente máximo da instituição a quem compete também decidir da contratação.
