ALIEN SPECIES IN AZORES

BIOISLE researcher Ana Cristina Costa shared her expertise about the introduction and current status of the invasive red swamp crayfish in S. Miguel, Azores, in an interview for the TV programme Biosfera.
In this episode, which focused on freshwater invasive species, Ana Cristina explained how red swamp crayfish arrived to S. Miguel, Azores. This alien species was observed for the first time in the archipelago in 1993, and recent genetic analyses show that these animals descend from mainland individuals.
