CIBIO-InBIO RESEARCHERS PROVIDE EXPERT VIEW ON THE IMPACT OF CLIMATE CHANGE IN BIODIVERSITY
The online platform Clima@EduMedia recently published a report on biodiversity and climate change entitled ‘Biodiversidade de “malas feitas”de sul para norte, which focuses on the impact that the phenomenon may have for animal populations along our national territory.
Amongst the contributions for this report, is the expert view provided by CIBIO-InBIO researchers Diogo Alagador, Dora Neto and Hugo Rebelo. In an interview to Renata Silva, Diogo Alagador highlighted the importance that predictions based on climate models may have to help us understand which species can most easily adapt themselves to climate change, and consequently allow us to draw effective spatial conservation strategies optimizing persistence scenarios.”. In turn, Hugo Rebelo refers to the impact that climate change has on bats and how the study of this impact can help us to preserve these animal species. Finally, Dora Neto underlines the relevance of focusing on birds in studies of climatic changes, stemming from the fact that these animals, particularly in what comes to long-distance migratory species, provide good indications as to the impact that climatic variations impinge upon the habitats that these animals come across.
