FUNGUS MAY THREATEN AMPHIBIANS FROM MADAGASCAR

A new study, published in the latest issue of Scientific Reports, revealed that amphibian chytrid fungus is present in wild amphibians of Madagascar since 2010. The study was conducted by an international team of researchers which included Angelica Crottini, from CIBIO-InBIO’s Applied Phylogenetics Group.
This fungus, which is present in several continents, is now identified in five different places in Madagascar, making it a possible threat to hundreds of those species, in a country that shelters 7% of worldwide amphibian diversity.
