PAULO CÉLIO ALVES TALKS TO KCRA 3 AND THE MODESTO BEE ABOUT THE 5TH WORLD LAGOMORPH CONFERENCE

From July 11-15, 2016, California State University hosted the 5th World Lagomorph Conference, on the behalf the World Lagomorph Society, which gathered in Stanislaus, California, more than a 70 researchers working with rabbits, hares, and pikas, from twenty-three countries. This conference addresses the biology of wild lagomorphs, including their natural history, behavior, ecology, physiology, morphology, genetics, evolution, paleontology, disease, management, and conservation.

 

In an interview to the KCRA 3 TV Channel and The Modesto Bee Newspaper, CIBIO-InBIO researcher Paulo Célio Alves, the president of the World Lagomorph Society, highlighted the current state of distribution of the European rabbit and its impact in other species, such as the Iberian lynx, highlighting the need to explore remote areas (e.g.: China, Himalayan region), and to study new species.

Amongst the conference participants were also CIBIO-InBIO researchers Fernando Seixas, José Melo-Ferreira, Mafalda Ferreira and Rita Campos, who presented some outcomes of their work on lagomorphs.
