RHDV IDENTIFIED IN PORTUGUESE HARES

In samples of Iberian Hare (Lepus granatensis) collected in Portugal in 1995, CIBIO-InBIO researchers were able to identify a strain of Rabbit Haemorrhagic disease virus (RHDV) which, at that time, was widespread in wild rabbit populations. The results of their study, published last year in the journal Veterinary Research, may explain the decline observed in populations of Iberian hares and provide a starting point to preserve this species.
