Domain of Specialization: Satellite, Biological and Coupled/Physical Biological Oceanography Processes, Dynamics of Marine Ecosystems. Main areas of research include: Ocean Colour (bio-optical parameters) and Thermal Infrared (SST); plankton/bacterioplankton (distribution, patterns), associated dynamics, and underlying physical forcing mechanisms responsible for plankton space and time variability; climate variability (its effect on regional biodiversity and on local shifts in biological production).
Main regions of research include: the East coast of USA and the NE Atlantic (in particular, Azores, open ocean and seamounts, coastal waters, banks, Meddies, and also mainland coast of Portugal), Africa, and Indonesia.
