Beatriz Alves is a Veterinary Surgeon with over a decade of professional experience, particularly in clinical feline medicine. She holds a master’s degree in Conservation Medicine from the University of Edinburgh and is currently pursuing a PhD in Biodiversity, Genetics and Evolution at CIBIO and Faculdade de Ciências, Universidade do Porto. Her doctoral research, conducted in collaboration with the EU LIFE Saving Wildcats project at the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland, focuses on the European wildcat-domestic cat interface, with an emphasis on understanding infectious disease transmission and hybridisation between the two species. Beatriz has previously worked with the Iberian Lynx ex-situ conservation program, with a special focus on ethology. She has also participated in a range of advanced wildlife medicine and conservation courses, including programs in Thailand, India, South Africa and the UK, further enhancing her expertise in global conservation initiatives.
