I have a strong academic foundation in natural sciences, holding a BSc from the Università degli Studi di Milan, followed by an MSc and a Ph.D. in Biodiversity, Genetics, and Evolution at the University of Porto, in collaboration with the University of Exeter, and CIBIO/InBIO. My background is characterized by a blend of molecular ecology, conservation biology, and extensive fieldwork across West and Central Africa and the Mediterranean.
My research interests include herpetology, molecular ecology, landscape genetics, biogeography, taxonomy, systematics, and the application of integrative methods such as barcoding, environmental DNA, and spatial data integration to study species evolution, map biodiversity, assess genetic connectivity, and inform conservation strategies. I am particularly focused on determining how genetic diversity and population connectivity are shaped by environmental factors in heterogeneous landscapes. Currently, I am investigating the distribution, genetic structure, and conservation of threatened species using both non-invasive and invasive genetic sampling, remote sensing, and camera trapping to guide evidence-based management and policy decisions. In addition to my research, I am actively engaged in science dissemination, teaching, and student supervision, and collaborative conservation projects.
