I am interested in understanding historical and contemporary evolutionary forces that govern genetic variation in nature. In my PhD thesis we described and compared phylogeographic patterns in three Asian salmonid genera. These patterns were used to draw inferences on the evolutionary history of each organism, and as models in attempting to evaluate hypotheses concerning the paleo-hydrological dynamics of Siberian river systems. As these dynamics invariably reflect major climatic fluctuations, involving the formation and melting of glaciers, we hope that these investigations could contribute to some biological evidence addressed toward current controversial perspectives on Siberian glaciation.
