My main research interest is to understand how genetic diversity at key immunity-related genes influences pathogen resistance in an evolutionary framework. During my PhD I used the European rabbit as a model species to characterize the genetic diversity at innate immunity genes [interleukins (ILs), chemokine ligands (CCLs), and Toll-like receptors TLRs]. More recently I began studying the immune diversity of elasmobranchs (sharks, rays and chimaeras), their relations with pathogens, and how different variables shape this relation.
