As a marine ecologist, I have undertaken various projects aimed at understanding and sustainably managing marine ecosystems, with specific interests in coastal resources management, biodiversity assessment, aquaculture, and pollution monitoring. My engagement with community livelihood diversification programs involved capacity building and training in aquaculture, as well as facilitating community participation in biodiversity assessment through the incorporation of traditional knowledge. Notably, I contributed to policy research on the blue economy, focusing on deep-sea mining in the Indo-Pacific region, where we emphasized opportunities, environmental risks, and governance considerations. I also worked in the Netherlands over the span of five years, focusing on applied marine research, particularly in marine biofilm, biofouling and biocontaminants.
