I hold a Bachelor's degree in Biology with a specialization in Genetics, which has provided a strong foundation for my research in environmental science and biodiversity conservation. My academic background includes studies on the eco-physiology of cyanobacteria and green algae, where I applied my genetics expertise to DNA extraction, cell culture, and advanced microscopy techniques. I have also researched the impacts of greenhouse gases on freshwater and marine phytoplankton, deepening our understanding of their ecological roles. Additionally, I have coordinated socio-environmental education initiatives in community-oriented projects and worked as environmental educator for scientific disemination.
Currently, I am working on a conservation project for Quercus lusitanica in northern Portugal. This project integrates population genomics, species distribution models, and phytosanitary management to support the restoration of threatened populations in northern Portugal. Predictive models indicate significant habitat loss for Q. lusitanica under climate change scenarios, emphasizing the urgency of our efforts. We are testing the innovative use of a photovoltaic park as a nursery for acorn production while monitoring natural regeneration processes.
