I am Isabel, a marine ecologist, and I am particularly interested in the interactions between marine organisms and their surroundings, how they respond to biotic and abiotic stresses, and how they adapt to a changing environment by examining the mechanisms underlying the evolution of adaptive traits.
Throughout my undergraduate and graduate studies both in Spain and Norway, respectively, I have gained a solid understanding about the major ecological processes that act on organisms in a wide range of marine habitats (e.g., seagrass beds, fjord systems, the pelagic realm), and the sea floor. I did my master thesis at the Marine Ecology group at Nord University in Bodø (Norway). I focused on the scavenging community composition of a sub-Arctic fjord system, and I used molecular tools for species identification of marine crustaceans.
During my stay at CIBIO as a research technician I will join the group of Dr. Rui Faria for 6 months. I am planning to expand my abilities in the lab and using bioinformatic tools by unveiling the genomic underpinnings of human lice (Pediculus humanus) in the project EVOLICE led by Catarina Pinho.
