My research interests focus on the study of the origin, evolution and conservation of the Western Mediterranean biodiversity using amphibians as model species. In particular, I have been using phylogenetic, phylogeographic and population genetic methods to understand the evolutionary processes that were in the origin of a set of fragmented populations of different amphibian species distributed across the south and southeastern Iberian Peninsula, as well as to develop tools that allow its conservation under a scenario of climate change.
