Mário André Barros Cunha
PhD Student
In 2010 I received my bachelor degree in Aquatic Sciences from University of Porto. Afterwards I moved to Uppsala, Sweden, where I obtained a master degree in Biology from Uppsala University in 2012. Presently I am a BIODIV PhD student at the University of Porto and CIBIO/InBIO.
My research interests are mostly centered in sexual selection (pre and post-copulatory) and sexual conflict. Fish from the family Syngnathidae are a perfect model to address post-copulatory selection in males, since this family has the fascinating phenomenon of male pregnancy. I have also been working on how different traits are sexually selected and how it conveys additional and/or complementary information on individual quality.
