Associate Professor
My research interests are centred on animal communication and mate choice behaviour, animal cognition, and the behavioural ecology of human altruism and cooperation. I recently got interested in studying the behaviour of natural populations of great apes, in Africa. I use a combination of field studies and laboratory experiments in order to understand the functional and cognitive aspects of behaviour. I also investigate variation in human behaviour in relation to societal or life-history differences, to test hypotheses on the adaptiveness of human behaviour.
I am currently Associate Professor at the Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia da Universidade de Coimbra, and coordinate the establishment of the TwinLab of Cabinda.
