Pedro Lopes

I'm a Biologist specialized in ecology with more than 15 years of experience in biodiversity studies and wildlife monitoring. Holder of a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and a Master’s degree in Ecology, both from the University of Coimbra, with a thesis focused on the population dynamics of a bird species, and a licensed bird ringer by ICNF since 2014.

Since 2010, I have been working as a freelance biologist in environmental consulting, collaborating with leading national companies on environmental impact assessment projects, particularly in hydroelectric developments and wind farms. My experience includes specialized monitoring of birds, bats, semi-aquatic mammals, terrestrial carnivores and arthropods, using a wide range of methods such as point counts, transects, camera trapping and different capture techniques.

Between 2018 and 2025, I was part of research teams at CIBIO-UP and CFE-UC in scientific research projects, including "Life After Fire”, "TopDevil” and "MULTI-CRASH”, where I developed skills in invertebrate taxonomic identification, analysis of insectivorous bird diets and identification of plants and seeds. 

My main interests are Ecology, Nature Conservation and Environmental Education.
