Rubim Manuel Almeida da Silva
Assistant Professor
Rubim Almeida is a member of the Departament of Biology (Fac. of Sciences) of University of Porto (FCUP).
With a degree in Biology (FCUP) and a PhD in Taxonomy and Ecology (FCUP), specialized in Evolution and Phylogeny of Monocots (mainly Hyacinthaceae), his interests include areas as diverse as Systematics, Evolution, Taxonomy, Molecular Taxonomy, Functional Ecology, Landscaping, Urbanism, Floristic, Archaeobotany, Forensic botany or photography of nature.
Currently teaches classes on topics related to botany, diversity, systematics and ecology, iberian habitats and diversity to undergraduate and master students of Biology, Science and Technology Environment and Landscape Architecture.
He is currently the Head of the MSc. in Ecology, Environment and Territory (FCUP). Also is supervisor of several PhD and post-doc students.
Having worked at the National History Museum (UK), the University of Valencia (Spain) and collaborated with the Royal Botanical Garden of Madrid (Spain), he actually integrates the Technical Team of the Botanical Garden of UTAD (Portugal), is the Curator of Porto Herbarium (PO) and collaborate with various national and international organizations, being an author and advisor to the Project Flora Ibérica (CSIC - Spain) and the Portuguese coordinator for the project Atlas Flora Europaea (University of Helsinki, Finland).
