Rui Figueira

Dr Rui Figueira is an Associate Researcher of the Tropical Research Institute (IICT) since 2008 and the Portuguese Node Manager of the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) since 2013. After completing his PhD in Ecology by the University of Lisbon in 2002, he was Invited Assistant Professor of Instituto Superior Técnico (2004-2010). His research interests are on species’ distribution modelling and biodiversity informatics, with integration of ecological niche modelling, geostatistics and multivariate data analysis. He was involved in 20 research projects, (two as coordinator). He published a total of 51 scientific papers, including 22 per-reviewed papers in international scientific journals. His experience in biodiversity informatics includes the development and management of information facilities (hardware and software) to support biodiversity data, installation and use of standards and protocols for biodiversity data integration and sharing (Darwin Core, DiGIR, Tapir, GBIF IPT).
