My academic journey began with describing a new species of marine, colonial ciliate, demonstrating the ciliate’s ectosymbiotic association with a single bacterial species, and investigating the symbiosis’ ecology.
I then transitioned into the field of population genetics, studying the genetic diversity of the green toad, Bufotes viridis, with the aim of establishing a genetic
monitoring program.
My passion, however, has always been marine biology. Therefore, my current and future research focuses on the diversity and evolution of Holocephalans, an enigmatic, severely understudied taxon of (mostly) deep-sea cartilaginous fishes, using population genomics and phylogenomics methods.
