Archaeobotanical study of Tongobriga (Marco de Canaveses, Portugal)

Archaeobotanical study of Tongobriga (Marco de Canaveses, Portugal)

In the scope of the project "Tongobriga e Territorium - Valorização da paisagem milenar", financed by PROVERE, an archaeobotanical study was carried out in the Roman city of Tongobriga, in the actual village of Freixo (Marco de Canaveses). New excavations took place in order to obtain palaeoecological and palaeoethnobotanical information. These were coordinated by António Lima (DRCN). Systematic sampling was carried out by Inés Lopez Doriga in different areas, within distinct chronologies, from the Bronze Age to the Medieval Period.
Carpological studies are being done by Inés Lopez Doriga and charcoal analyses are included in the PhD program of Filipe Vaz and the Post-doc program of María Martín Seijo.
