Exhibition "Bones of our trade, animals of our history"

The exhibition Bones of our trade, animals of our history. Lagar Velho told through its animals will inaugurate on the 1st of june at Museu de Leiria, Avenida Heróis de Angola, and CIA - Centro de Interpretação Ambiental de Leiria, in the frame of the programme of the Comemoração dos 25 Anos da Descoberta do Abrigo do Lagar Velho e da Criança do Lapedo.
This exhibition shows the enormous wealth and diversity of animal species that have been identified through archaeological practice at the Lagar Velho rockshelter, an emblematic site of European prehistory.
Their bones have reached us!
Through this exceptional array of species, we can find out what our Upper Palaeolithic ancestors ate, the landscapes that surrounded them and even the climatic conditions they experienced. But that's not all! The exhibition reveals a lost world, species that have become extinct and others that have been improved for the exclusive benefit of Human Beings.
Nowadays, many of these species are seriously threatened. It is up to us, as Humankind, to contribute to the conservation of the animal world in order to enrich the biodiversity that once existed, for the benefit of people and the planet.
The inauguration will take place at 3:30 PM at Avenida Heróis de Angola, followed by a tour on the Leiria Museum and the Leiria Environmental Interpretation Center (CIA), where at 5:00 PM a talk will take place about the prehistoric landscapes of the Lapedo Valley, with the research team from the Lagar Velho Shelter: Ana Cristina Araújo, Ana Maria Costa, Joan Daura, and Montserrat Sanz.
