In the context of the great fire that destroyed part of Serra de Monchique this summer, online magazine Wilder carried out an article about this region's natural heritage.

Carlos Vila-Viçosa, geobotanist who had worked in Monchique between 2006 and 2012, provided details on this sierra’s flora and vegetation. It is, according to him, "a priceless natural heritage".
