SCIENTIFIC EXPEDITION COLLECTS SAMPLES FROM FLORES AND CORVO LAKES FOR PALEOENVIRONMENTAL RECONSTRUCTIONS
The expedition under the scope of the project PaleoModes was sponsored by the Spanish Government with the support of the Regional Government of Azores and the municipalities of Flores and Corvo. The research work aimed to characterize the spatial and temporal evolution of the climate patterns of the Iberian Peninsula and the Azores Archipelago, by using a multiproxy approach applied to six lacustrine sediment records for the last 2,000 years.
From 5 to 28 of June, 2017, an international research team which includes CIBIO-InBIO/Açores researchers will collect several samples from different Azorean lakes and reveal some important information on ancestral climate and environmental features. This information will hopefully open new avenues for the proposal of innovative models that can be used on climate change and lacustrine ecosystem functioning at Azores and throughout Europe.
