Assistant Professor
I first graduated in Agricultural Engineering but my wonderment for the landscapes where I was born (Mozambique) and raised (Douro Valley) pushed me into Landscape Architecture. So, after completing my Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences I decided to study Landscape Architecture at the University of Porto, where I´m an assistant professor of planting design and landscape management.
My research interests are quite diverse and include the assessment, planning, design, and management of a wide-ranging of habitats and ecosystems especially in urban environments. I am mostly concerned with the resilience of cities and their adaptation to global changes and I believe that urban green spaces will play a decisive role in this process. Through more and better parks, gardens and urban forests, integration of novel urban ecosystems, deeper understanding of native and exotic species traits, the evidence-based design of green infrastructures, and the adoption of nature-based solutions, we will be able to sustainably accommodate in cities both man and nature.
