David Montgomery earned his bachelor's degree in Biology from Grinnell College in 2010 and his Master's from Drexel University in 2021. He has served as the Director of the Bioko Biodiversity Protection Program (https://bioko.org/) in Equatorial Guinea since 2021, but has over a decade of experience leading conservation initiatives and education exchange programs on Bioko, a unique and threatened biodiversity hotspot in the Gulf of Guinea. He also brings with him relevant experiences from several other African countries.
Looking ahead, David is enthusiastic about assuming a similar role as the Director of the Equatorial Guinea Biodiversity Program (EGBP), a program currently in the process of formal establishment between Biopolis and the National University of Equatorial Guinea. In this capacity, David will divide his time between CIBIO and Equatorial Guinea, overseeing both ongoing projects on Bioko Island and new initiatives across the country. The program has the support of various international partners, including Conservation International, Re:wild, and the Rainforest Trust
David's primary concern is to enhance the long-term sustainability of efforts to conserve threatened species and landscapes in collaboration with local communities and stakeholders.
