João Pimenta

João Pimenta has a PhD in Biology (2018) from the University of Porto. During his PhD, performed in collaboration between the Institute for Research and Innovation in Health, Porto, and the Institute of Evolutionary Biology, Barcelona, he used population genetics tools, including complex statistical approaches (i.e. approximate Bayesian computation), to learn about human history and understand the processes that led to the current patterns of genetic diversity. 

Currently, he is applying evolutionary genomics to understand the molecular basis of seasonal coat colour change, focusing the research efforts in three transition zones between winter brown and white morphs in three weasel species - Mustela nivalis, M. erminea and M. frenata.
