Researcher with 15 years of experience in the field of wildlife health, management, and conservation, with a particular focus on game and endangered species. His research has contributed to the understanding of multiple aspects of wildlife species, including their evolutionary history, ecological interactions, trophic niches, population monitoring and health surveillance. His work also involves the development of eDNA-based tools to improve biodiversity monitoring and disease surveillance, and the implementation of integrated wildlife monitoring programs for sustainable management of wildlife populations and early detection of emerging pathogens in nature, offering a proactive approach towards averting future pandemics within the One Health framework. He also has extensive experience in knowledge transfer to society through his involvement in scientific and applied projects with game species, including the provision of services and consultancy to hunter associations and public entities on game management and wildlife conservation practices. He is currently implementing an integrated wildlife monitoring program in red-legged partridges in southern Portugal and testing novel approaches for the monitoring of emerging pathogens in vectors, hosts and the environment. Author of 40+ publications in international journals and supervisor of more than 30 students (Bachelor, Master, PhD).
