EDP Sabor - Scientific assessment of impact monitoring and compensation programs of the Hydroelectric Infrastructure of the Baixo Sabor (AHBS) - Phase 2 (2014-2018)

The project is an extension of the scientific consultancy provided by CIBIO-InBIO to EDP for the Compensation, Mitigation and Environmental Monitoring of the Baixo Sabor Hydroelectric Dam (AHBS) project. The purpose of the project is to ensure that the mitigation/compensation measures due for the short-term exploitation phase of the AHBS are implemented with a sound scientific basis. Also included in the projected activities is the CIBIO-InBIO’s support to EDP regardig the administrative process of building up and subsequent consolidation of the Natural Park of Sabor-Tua, as an important element of a regional development strategy based on the sustainable conservation and use of biodiversity resources and ecosystems services. An additional goal is to perform complementary fieldwork capable of ensure, in the long-term, the scientific basis of the mitigation/compensation processes, namely those arising from the consolidation of the LTER (Long-Term Ecological Research) site of Baixo Sabor.
